NetworkNature hosted the Annual Event “Choose Nature” in Brussels
NetworkNature acts as a platform to foster a science-based repository of evidence on Nature-based Solutions, while also strengthening partnerships and nurturing new relationships around a strategic framework for action. NetworkNature is one of the networks LAND4CLIMATE is part of. It is within this scope that the network organised the annual event “Choose Nature”, held on 16 September in Brussels in collaboration with Brussels Environment.
The event explored different means to align biodiversity and economy in times of urgency, building on the concept of Nature-based Solutions. Structured around four thematic sessions (Choose to work with and for nature; Choose to trust nature and people; Choose to invest in nature; Choose to partner with nature), the initiative was an opportunity to hear from stakeholders from both the public and private sectors on the link between nature and economy, innovation, finance and business. In parallel with the event, the exhibition Why Choose Nature? / Why Do We Care? served as a reflection moment to highlight how nature-based approaches can encourage a wide range of perspectives in relation to nature.
LAND4CLIMATE participated in the event through its visibility in the exhibition. Choose Nature acted as a demonstration that only by engaging all parts of society, especially those who own and manage the land, nature can offer the most sustainable and inclusive pathway to adapt to the growing impacts of climate change. As part of the exhibition, LAND4CLIMATE was asked to issue a statement about the purpose of choosing nature. Our answer was: "We choose nature because only by harnessing the potential of private land for climate solutions can we build a truly resilient Europe".
