LAND4CLIMATE seminars explore access to private land for Nature-based Solutions at TU Dortmund University
From October 2025 to February 2026, the Faculty of Spatial Planning at TU Dortmund University hosted a seminar series grounded in the LAND4CLIMATE case studies. A group of six Master’s students in Spatial Planning participated in an intensive program designed to unpack one of the field’s most pressing challenges: how to secure access to private land for implementing Nature-based Solutions. The seminar blended lectures, students’ presentations, structured discussions, and serious gaming to simulate real-world negotiations and decision-making. Through these formats, students examined governance models, stakeholder engagement strategies, legal frameworks, and incentive mechanisms relevant to private land access. Case materials from LAND4CLIMATE provided concrete examples, helping participants compare instruments and outcomes. The seminar highlighted the pivotal role of private land in delivering climate adaptation and ecosystem services while underscoring the need for collaborative and place-based approaches. The participating students will carry forward their insights in upcoming studio work and thesis projects, contributing to evidence-based, implementable strategies for Nature-based Solutions in European planning practice.
