LAND4CLIMATE kicks off its webinar series with practical pathways from climate risk to NbS

On 30 June 2026, LAND4CLIMATE hosted the first session of its Nature-based Solutions Webinar Series: “From Climate Risk to Nature-based Solutions: Methodologies for Identification and Implementation.” The online session brought together more than 80 participants and included experiences from LAND4CLIMATE, CARDIMED and NBRACER, alongside regional examples from Steiermark, West Flanders and İzmir. The exchange focused on practical methodologies for identifying, prioritising and implementing Nature-based Solutions (NbS) for climate resilience. The webinar explored how climate risk assessments and regional adaptation challenges can be translated into actionable NbS implementation pathways. Speakers shared methodological and practical perspectives on how to identify suitable NbS, assess their relevance across different territorial contexts, and support decision-making processes for regional and local authorities. A key focus of the session was the comparison of different approaches developed within the three NBS4EU sister projects. Contributions addressed how methodologies can help prioritise NbS, support stakeholder engagement, and respond to the specific needs of diverse landscapes and governance settings.

The LAND4CLIMATE contribution showed how climate risk assessments and spatial hotspot mapping can support the prioritisation of adaptation measures and help move from identified risks to concrete NbS options. The regional examples from Steiermark, West Flanders and İzmir added practical perspectives on the opportunities and challenges of moving from planning to implementation. In line with LAND4CLIMATE’s focus on the use of private land for mainstreaming NbS, the session also underlined why implementation often requires looking beyond public land and engaging with landowners, local stakeholders and governance actors. The discussion also touched upon recurring questions in NbS planning, including where promising concepts may encounter barriers, what makes an identification methodology useful for authorities and practitioners, and how implementation approaches can differ between public and private land.

This first session opened LAND4CLIMATE’s three-part series dedicated to key aspects of NbS implementation. The next session, “NbS Finance: Funding and Project Development”, will take place on 13 October 2026 from 14:00 to 15:15 CEST and will explore EU and national funding opportunities, as well as how to develop investment-ready NbS project proposals. The third session, “Governance & Land-Policy Tools: Implementing NbS on Private Land”, will take place on 17 November 2026 from 14:00 to 15:15 CEST, focusing on governance approaches, stakeholder engagement strategies and land-policy instruments that can support the long-term implementation of NbS on private land. Registration for the second session will open soon.
