LAND4CLIMATE at EURESFO 2025: Driving Policy Innovation for Water Resilience through Nature-Based Solutions

On 25 June 2025, LAND4CLIMATE took part in the European Urban Resilience Forum in Rotterdam, co-organising a dynamic session titled “From Practice to Policy: Innovating Water Resilience through Nature-based Solutions (NbS).” The session brought together experts, regional representatives and project partners to explore how NbS can address water-related challenges while informing EU policy frameworks, including the forthcoming Water Resilience Strategy.

The session showcased practical examples from across Europe. Speakers from the PACA region (France), from the LAND4CLIMATE frontrunning region Košice (Slovakia), Politecnico di Milano (Italy), and CDP highlighted how NbS are already strengthening resilience to floods, droughts, and water pollution in diverse contexts, everywhere from vineyards and educational sites in Slovakia to green walls for greywater treatment in Turin.

A key focus of the session was the role of policy and governance in scaling up successful NbS implementations. Speakers stressed the importance of local government engagement, cross-sector collaboration, and accessible funding and regulatory pathways. Three breakout discussions examined thematic challenges in flood management, water scarcity, and wastewater treatment, identifying shared barriers and offering practical recommendations.

For LAND4CLIMATE, the session was an opportunity to exchange knowledge with other EU-funded projects such as NICE, CARDIMED, and NBRACER, and to contribute to future policy briefs. It also highlighted the project's unique role in pioneering NbS on private land and fostering collaboration between public actors and landowners.

The insights gathered in this session will feed directly into LAND4CLIMATE’s efforts to advance integrated, practical and policy-relevant approaches to nature-based water resilience.
