BWBA starts discussions with Lugoj Municipality for LAND4CLIMATE

The Banat Water Basin Administration has begun the necessary steps to obtain an agreement to use some land owned by the Lugoj Municipality. The goal is to implement the European project LAND4CLIMATE and carry out its post-implementation phase (until 2032). The project aims to increase the resilience of habitats in the Lugoj - Caransebeș area to climate change by integrating Nature-based Solutions. BWBA already has agreements with private owners for about 25 hectares, but for the continuity of the works and connectivity with the Timiș River, small areas of public land from the patrimony of the Lugoj Municipality, located near the Timiș River, are also necessary.

With the support of European funds, between 2025 and 2027, BWBA plans to transform several abandoned lands into wetlands, which will mitigate floods, reduce the effects of drought and help recharge aquifers. The lands will be restored with vegetation specific to natural habitats, also providing landscape value to this area. Therefore, the support of the Lugoj Municipality is extremely important in achieving the project objective, as a legal framework suitable to both parties is necessary for the execution of the works. BWBA appreciates the collaboration of the Lugoj Municipality and its openness to such innovative solutions, which contribute to increasing the attractiveness and quality of life in these areas.
